(My mother in law sent this to me and it spoke to me tremendously. I hope this can minister to your heart as well.)
What are some of the virtues that we would desire as a godly woman? What does God desire us to have as a godly woman?
The dictionary defines beauty as the quality of being pleasing in color, tone or behavior to the senses or the mind; most satisfying. We also find out from the Bible that God is more interested in our heart than in our outward appearance. For God looks not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. (I Sam. 16:7) For we know that outward beauty is vain. It isn't lasting. (Prov. 31:30) Inner beauty of the heart, on the other hand, that's eternal. II Cor. 4:18 says, "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Inner beauty begins in our heart. Ezekiel 36:26 says that God has given us a new heart and a new spirit. In Psalm 51 David cries out to God to "create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me." We need to be more concerned with our inner man. I Peter 3:3-4 says, "...whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price." The ornament of a meek and quiet spirit is of great price in God's eyes!
In Eph. 5:22-27 God compares our marriage relationship to Jesus and the Church. Verse 27 reads, "...That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish." Do we have spots and blemishes? What are some of these spots? I believe they are anger, resentment against people and God, bitterness, unforgiveness, guilt. Thank God that He has given us spot removers! He has given us beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness! (Isaiah 61: 3)
