The Truth About Beauty
**1 Timothy 2:9-15**
*9- In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel (clothing), with shamefacedness and sobriety (modesty and discretion); not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array (clothing).
God implanted a desire within us to want to have a good appearance and to want to look nice. Paul, the author of the above scripture, is not discouraging this, rather he is warning women against dressing extravagant, seductive, and immodest. Why? First of all, women shouldn't use or exploit their God given femenine charm in a manipulative manner. Secondly, women shouldn't dress in a way that might hinder or distract their brethren (men or males in the church) from worshiping God. Lastly, women should not try to overdo their attire, because they can't be sure that they won't provoke on of their christian sisters to be jealous.
**Matthew 6:28**
*28- And why take ye thought for raiment (do you worry about clothing)? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin.
Let's consider the lilies of the field for a second. They are magnificently beautiful just as they are. They don't need accessories to enhance their beauty. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking accessorizing, but my point is that a woman's beauty does not come from accessories such as Coach purses, Prada heels, or Gucci sunglasses. Nor does a woman's beauty come from having the latest hairstyle or the trendiest clothing. As christian women, our beauty comes from the fact that God made us, loves us, and lives in our hearts.
**Zecharaih 9:17**
*17- For how great is his (God's) goodness and how great is his beauty!
Take notice that there is not a question mark at the end of that sentence, nor is there even a period, but it is an exclamation mark that ends this sentence. This verse EXCLAIMS how great God's beauty is. If God lives in your heart then his beauty also dwells there.
The world has its own idea about what beauty is and how women can look and feel sexy or seductive. It is so very important for christian women to not only take notice that this is incorrect, but we need to recognize that it directly contradicts the word of God.
**Proverbs 5:3**
*3- For the lips of a strange (immoral) woman drops (drips honey) as a honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: *4- But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. *5- Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
**Titus 2:12**
*12- (The grace of God) Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world (age).
Sisters I want to encourage you to cling to the Word and recognize that God does not make mistakes. He didn't slip up when he gave me freckles, or when he gave me my wild and wavy hair. He made you and I exactly the way we appear. If God, whose way is perfect, made us intentionally just the way we are, then we should embrace the way God made us to look, and give him praise instead of wishing we could look like the celebrity in the latest US Weekly. If we stick to his word and present ourselves in a modest and dignified way, we can allow his holy beauty to shine through and through.
